“Get this quick because it’s going to sell out” – How social media reacted to Leeds Rhinos’ new shirt

Ahead of their semi-final clash with St Helens, Leeds revealed their new shirt for the 2022 season.

The Blue and Amber kit is a new take on the traditional Rhinos jersey blending the three amber stripes with a touching tribute to legend Rob Burrow with a number of sevens woven into the centre amber stripe.

Simple in its design and a call back to the past whether you’re looking at Leeds RL’s traditional tops or the 2005 and 2018 jerseys. The kit isn’t anything out of the ordinary but it is a smart design for sure. That’s my view anyway, but how did social media see it?

Many were impressed with how the shirt was unveiled. Oxen and Leeds put together a brilliant video package adorned by an inspirational speech from Super League’s most successful player Jamie Peacock.

One fan even suggested that the speech should be used to get the Leeds players fired up for the semi-final clash with St Helens.

In general, people were somewhat taken aback by Peacock’s powerful speech.

Another suggested that the former Leeds number 10 should be appointed Head Coach they were so impressed by his motivational speech.

The kit is certainly traditional and is even reminiscent of the jersey Leeds wore in the 1978 Challenge Cup Final win over their Super League semi-final opponents St Helens.

One supporter suggested that Leeds United should take notes from Oxen if they want to produce better kits moving forward.

Most supporters were ready to purchase it straight off the bat.

Not every fan was impressed, however. One felt it was too similar to previous seasons.

However, most believe that the kit is simply “superb.”
