It’s been a lengthy transfer saga, but George Williams is set to return to the UK next week.
The news was reported by Sky Sports in the build-up to the Castleford-Hull FC game by pundit Jenna Brooks, but it still remains to be seen where the halfback will be heading.
Wigan and Warrington are said to be going toe-to-toe with each other to win Williams’ signature, but Leeds are still in the race too despite boss Richard Agar dismissing the rumours a few weeks ago.
Williams had spent a year-and-a-half at Canberra following a big-money move from Wigan ahead of the 2020 season, but claims of homesickness plagued the last few months of his time with the Raiders.
And, it all got rather messy when the Green Machine’s CEO Don Furner released Williams immediately instead of waiting until the end of the season.
That issue has now been resolved and the England international parted ways with Canberra earlier in the week.
