Canberra Raiders have confirmed that George Williams has been officially released by the club.
The English halfback played a total of 32 matches in one-and-a-half seasons with the Green Machine after moving to the Australian capital ahead of the 2020 season.
However, bouts of homesickness amidst the coronavirus pandemic prompted Williams to hanker for a release at the end of 2021 – something which Canberra were unwilling to do.
Instead, the club’s hierarchy decided to split with the halfback immediately, which set off an ugly turn of events. However, this has now been resolved and Williams looks set to pursue his career elsewhere.
Wigan and Warrington are still in pole position to sign the 26-year-old.
