George Williams’ new halfback partner for Warrington Wolves against Leeds Rhinos

Warrington Wolves star George Williams

George Williams has had his fair share of halfback partners in 2022 for Warrington Wolves.

With injuries to the likes of Gareth Widdop and the tinkering of halves in the shape of Stefan Ratchford, Peter Mata’utia and Riley Dean, it’s safe to say that Warrington have been doing it tough in finding a stable halfback partnership.

That has been one of the major issues in 2022 under Daryl Powell as the former Castleford Tigers coach – who spent almost nine years at the Jungle – attempts to mould his squad by bringing in the players he wants as well as waving goodbye to a number of Wire stalwarts such as Mike Cooper and Josh Charnley.

And, there will be another one on show against Leeds Rhinos tomorrow night with youngster Riley Dean the most likely to take Ratchford’s place who will miss out due to concussion protocol.

This is how both Powell and Leeds boss Rohan Smith have named their 21-man squads.

Warrington secured their top flight status last week with a great win over Toulouse Olympique and though they are not mathematically safe, the French club are unlikely to win their last four games considering they have won only five all year.

The Wolves have recruited heavily mid-season as well for 2023 with the likes of Thomas Mikaele, Matty Nicholson and Matt Dufty joining in the past few months with Paul Vaughan, Sam Kasiano, Gil Dudson and Josh McGuire penning deals at the Halliwell Jones Stadium for next season and beyond.

It will be interesting to see how Warrington fare next season with a brand-new squad.
