George Williams impresses on Canberra debut

New Canberra Raiders recruit George Williams made an impressive start to his NRL career after helping the Raiders to a 24-6 win against the Gold Coast Titans.

Raiders Head Coach Ricky Stuart was happy with what he saw from his new half back and in his post-match interview.

He said: “I’m really excited by having George. He’s a threat, he’s got a wonderful kicking game and he’s a tough defender. He’s going to make our team better.”

Williams looked dangerous with the ball in hand on many occasions, and with the help of new half-back partner Jack Wighton, steered the Raiders to a home victory in the opening round.

Canberra’s new English half-back has the difficult task of replacing Aidan Sezer who helped the club reach the Grand Final last season, but Stuart is happy with what he has seen from the former Wigan Warriors star.

He added: “You don’t want to sing their praises too much because it’s only been an off-season of training but I’ve been really excited by what I’ve seen of George Williams.”
