Huddersfield Giants will keep a close eye on Lee Gaskell after the heart scare he suffered against Hull FC last Thursday.
The 26-year-old left the pitch at the John Smith’s Stadium feeling unwell but blood tests and an electrocardiogram taken before the season revealed no problems.
However, given the death of Danny Jones in 2015 from an undiagnosed heart problem, Giants Head Coach Rick Stone will take extra care with Gaskell.
“He’s has had some sad news with a death in the family recently,” Stone told the media.
“He went to the funeral yesterday which might have had an influence on what’s been going on. We’re just working through a procedure with our doctor Danny Glover.
“Danny’s checked him out and he’s pretty comfortable that he can train at this point in time. We probably need to get through today and make a decision ahead of our next training run on Thursday.
“We would never put Lee in a position where he wasn’t comfortable. His welfare and safety is paramount. If he continued to show signs that he’s not quite right, we would send him to see a specialist.”
