Gareth Widdop update

Gareth Widdop is set to make his comeback from a serious knee injury against Wakefield on Sunday, Warrington head coach Steve Price has confirmed.

How Price will fare in trying to incorporate Widdop, Blake Austin and George Williams into the first 13 remains to be seen, but the Australian boss is happy about the selection dilemma.

“It’s a good headache to have. You’ll know more on game day, I’m not going to give away too much at the minute,” said Price.

“They’re three quality players but we’ll have to wait until game day to see what it looks like.”

“Gaz is doing really well. He’s flying at the minute and he will come into consideration, as will Matty Ashton.”

Price was keen to stress how well Widdop was playing before his injury.

“Gaz was one of the form players of the competition before he got injured,” said Price.

“He copped a serious injury on his knee but credit goes to how hard he’s worked with his rehab and also our medical staff to get him back up and running.

“He was happy and buzzing around after the boys today which was positive.”
