There has been a lot of big rugby league news and Super League news lately especially around recruitment and halfbacks who are the key to success in Super League as we have seen with the Golden Generation at Leeds Rhinos as well as the success of Wigan Warriors and St Helens.
We are blessed with some top halfbacks in Super League at the moment such as George Williams at Warrington Wolves, Lachlan Lam at Leigh Leopards and Jordan Abdull at Hull KR.
This is why we often see halfbacks leading the way in terms of the Man of Steel race.
It is also why fans are focused on the saga around Blake Austin’s future at Leeds Rhinos with no deal agreed yet.
Leeds and Wigan are two clubs who are in the market for halfbacks as are Catalans Dragons with Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May expected to return to the NRL.
So there is a lot of transfer talk around halfbacks.
However, the halfback being spoken about the most lately is Jake Clifford at Hull FC.
One of Super League’s most in form players, Clifford has looked like the best number seven in Super League.
Following this former Hull FC and Hull KR star Paul Cooke said he could return to the NRL and now a club has entered the race to sign him in the shape of his former club the North Queensland Cowboys.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers, still looking for a halfback after Luke Brooks’ decision to join Manly Sea Eagles for 2024, are interested according to the Daily Telegraph who report:
“Wests Tigers have been offered Jake Clifford but a North Queensland homecoming looms more likely for the ex-Cowboys and Newcastle playmaker
“Clifford joined Hull FC this year but is expected to return to the NRL in 2024.
“The Cowboys have discussed signing the 25-year-old to add some depth to their halves.”
Now, Zerotackle have further reported this interest further adding more fuel to the fire and it seems these rumours are true with Hull Daily Mail reporting that he has agreed a deal with former club North Queensland for next year with an NRL clause being used in his contract.
