Furner to confirm new job

Former Leeds Rhinos boss David Furner is set to be unveiled as the new assistant coach at Newcastle Knights, reports James Hooper of Fox Sports.

The Knights recently announced current Sydney Roosters assistant Adam O’Brien as their new head coach for 2020, following the sacking of Nathan Brown.

Furner has been out of a job since being sacked by the Rhinos back in May, but will now reportedly be part of the new coaching setup at Newcastle.

Hooper believes the club are targeting him for his experience, having previously coached at the likes of Canberra, North Queensland and South Sydney.

There are also persisting rumours that Newcastle are still keen on bringing in former Hull KR and Salford coach Tim Sheens in a technical director role.
