Former Wigan Warriors man Jackson Hastings is reportedly subject to a player swap move with the news coming a week after he clarified his contract status.
Only last week, when speaking to Sky Sports, did Hastings rule out a Super League return as he watched former club Wigan Warriors cruise past Leigh Leopards.
Hastings was again present last night as Wigan defeated Hull KR 9-2 to retain their Grand Final title with the Warriors also picking up a fourth piece of silverware in 2024, becoming the first side to do so in the summer era.
Now, whilst he’ll likely be celebrating with his former club, reports have emerged that Hastings could be part of a player swap deal that might see him partner Lewis Dodd for the 2025 season.
Per a report from the Sydney Morning Herald, Hastings could be moved on to South Sydney Rabbitohs in a swap deal as Newcastle Knights aim to cut their costs.

It would be quite an extraordinary move if Hastings were to be moved on given his sentiments last week where he underlined the fact that he is contracted with Newcastle for 2025.
When responding to reports of a move, the ex-Wigan Warriors man explained: “No, I’ve obviously got a contract next year,” as he batted back talk of a Super League return.
However, he could potentially be on the move within the NRL with the Sydney Morning Herald suggesting that incoming Souths coach Wayne Bennett could be keen on his services.
Despite signing St Helens man Lewis Dodd for 2025, Souths apparently have doubts over the depth and talent in their halves and that’s seen the idea of a swap deal to bring Hastings to the Bunnies proposed.
Going the other way would be Lachlan Ilias, who was dropped to the reserve grade himself in 2024 where he would subsequently break his leg.
The Knights would likely be keen to get Hastings off their books given the reported $800,000 contract he is tied to for 2025 and in Ilias, they’d be getting a replacement who is younger and was highly regarded prior to his axing this year.
