Freddie Flintoff has his say on the World Club Challenge

England cricket legend Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has backed Wigan to overcome Sydney Roosters in Sunday’s World Club Challenge.

Preston-born Flintoff is a Warriors fan having watched the Cherry and White in his younger days and is good friends with the club’s former full-back Steve Hampson.

Each week the new Top Gear presenter  has his say on a number of big sporting events in his BetStars column and this week he featured the World Club clash at the DW Stadium.

Freddie told BetStars News: “Now here is a real heart versus head decision. My head says Sydney Roosters. They’re a really strong team with a few star players.

“They’ve got a couple of World Cup winners in their ranks and the Down Under teams always seem to be stronger than the UK. But my heart of course says Wigan.

“I used to go and watch the Warriors back in the day and my mate Steve Hampton even let me go down and train with them a couple of times.

“It’s a whole other level of fitness that they have in that sport I can tell you! I don’t think I could forgive myself if I bet against the mighty Wigan here.

“I’m sure the Traders are going to follow the odds and back the Aussies here but I’m going with my heart and saying Wigan.”
