France name incredibly strong squad to face England including Sydney Roosters back

The head coach of France, Laurent Frayssinous, has named his squad to face England in Toulouse this weekend.

The game takes place this Saturday, and can be viewed for free on SuperLeague+.

As always, it’s a side mostly made up of Catalans Dragons players, with thirteen of their players, such as Arthur Mourgue and Julian Bousquet, making up the bulk of the international team.

However, some of England’s biggest sides are also represented, with Wigan Warriors’ Tiaki Chan and Leeds Rhinos duo Justin Sangaré and Mickael Goudemand also named.

Toulouse Olympique have two players named, being the only Championship team represented.

Enzo Griffier is the only player outside of the British rugby league system named, being part of Sydney Roosters’ youth side. He made his NSW Cup debut this year.

He, alongside Hakim Miloudi and Maxime Stefani are the only players that haven’t played for Catalans – and Miloudi played for Saint-Estève, who are effectively the Dragons’ reserve side.

No players in the side play in France’s top division, Ligue Elite 1 XIII.

Arthur Romano is included despite receiving a one-match ban this week, so it may be appealed.

Frayssinous certainly seems excited about the current crop of players, saying: “This group to face England is surely the best group that the French team has known for quite some time and it is perfect to celebrate the 90th anniversary of French rugby league.

“I know that the players are keen to give everything so that the celebration is great and to make all the French rugby league players proud, even against one of the best teams in the world.

“We are certainly going to approach this test match with the humility that characterises us, but also with this enormous desire to raise the colors of our country and our sport high.”
