Four Super League stars banned – Here’s why

A huge four Super League players have been banned following the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

It was a busy week for officials despite the reduced number of games with five cards shown in the four games.

So it is no surprise that four Super League players have been hit with suspensions.

These include one of the players who received a red card, Kaide Ellis. He is banned for three games and fined £250 for a head butt.

Zak Hardaker, who received a yellow card, is banned for one game whilst teammates Ava Seumanufagai and Tom Nisbet join him so Leigh Leopards will certainly be stretched.

What did the Match Review panel have to say about these incidents:

“Strikes – Head Butt – makes full contact with the head of opponent.”

“Dangerous Throw – other dangerous throw”

“Dangerous Contact – Defender uses any part of their body forcefully to twist, bend or
otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves
an unacceptable risk of injury to that player”

“Dangerous Contact – A defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has
been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head,
neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to
that player.”

In total, a huge 11 players have been charged by the match review panel this week.

Of the 11, 10 are Super League stars with York’s Jack Teanby the only Championship player charged from the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

The other two players red card – Josh Griffin and Kaide Ellis – have both been referred to tribunal.

There are three fines handed out, including one to Ellis to exacerbate his punishment.
