Four Super League players named in Nigeria squad

Nigeria RL have announced their 60-man training squad for the Middle East Africa Championships in October.

Nigeria will compete against Ghana on October 2nd, with the winner then coming up against the victor of Cameroon v Morocco on October 5th.

The Nigerian team is headlined by Canterbury Bulldogs star Jayden Okunbor, who has impressed in his rookie season in the NRL, scoring five tries in 10 games.

Jayden Okunbor is one of eight professional players named by Nigeria.

There is a strong Super League contingent, with Tuoyo Egodo (Castleford), Sadiq Adebiyi (London), Muizz Mustapha (Leeds) and Elliot Wallis (Hull KR) all included.

Three Championship stars have also been selected by coach Joe Mbu in the shape of Dan Igbinedion, Rob Worrincy (both Dewsbury) and Will Sharp (Halifax).

There is also a surprise call-up for former Huddersfield, Sheffield, Batley and Rochdale winger Bolu Fagborun, who made a name for himself playing for the Giants in Super League between 2004 and 2006.

Now 34-years-old, his last professional game was for the Eagles in 2009, however he has now made himself available to represent the country of his birth.
