Leeds Rhinos had a season of progress in 2024, despite not making the Super League play-offs come the end of the campaign.
Now, they’ve made a few signings that could really take them to the next level – and they’ll need to be, as a number of the play-off contenders from 2024 look much better for 2025 based on their recruitment.
This is Brad Arthur‘s first full season at the club, meaning there’s an opportunity for players new and old to show that they deserve an opportunity under him
Here are a few we’ve picked out.
Four Leeds Rhinos players with points to prove under Brad Arthur
Matt Frawley
It’s probably fair to say Matt Frawley didn’t have the most consistent 2024, despite signing from NRL side Canberra Raiders with high expectations, alongside high-profile Super League recruit Brodie Croft.
He, for the most part, managed to keep his starting spot throughout the campaign, but could now be up against Jake Connor for a spot in the starting 13 if things aren’t going well.
Therefore, this is a vital season for Frawley’s Leeds Rhinos career, as he risks falling out of favour.
Maika Sivo
You may be turning up your nose at this choice, but Maika Sivo has received so much praise Down Under that he’s under a lot of pressure to perform to a high level.
Not just a high level, in fact: a really high, elite level – and he’s up against two of Super League’s most consistent try-scorers of the last decade for a spot on the wing.
He’s got little to prove to his former Parramatta head coach, but the media and fans may be a different story.
Alfie Edgell
A young man that got plenty of opportunities last year, he now has a chance to show Brad Arthur that he deserves a place even when the side aren’t devoid of other options.
He impressed on the wing despite being mostly a full-back, and needs to show his head coach that he’s worthy of being in the matchday 17.
Jake Connor
Jake Connor is a name that gets people talking, having played a pantomime villain role at the peak of his powers. He was full-back for a very disappointing Huddersfield Giants side in 2024, but under a new head coach at a new club could have a new lease of life.
He’s the ultimate versatile back, capable of playing in any of the positions, so he’s got plenty of opportunity to get starts – but he needs to show that he deserves them.
