FOUR Challenge Cup ties set to be broadcast

Four of the five ties in the Fifth Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup will be shown live, as the road to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in May continues.

BBC Sport, whose Challenge Cup journey began with the First Round tie between Orrell St James and the British Army in January, and who have subsequently covered matches at Rochdale, Hunslet and Batley, will head north-west for the meeting of Cumbrian rivals Barrow Raiders and Workington Town – which will kick off at 1pm on Sunday March 13.

That will be followed at 3pm by the West Yorkshire derby between Batley Bulldogs and Featherstone Rovers, which will be shown live on The Sportsman, who have also covered a tie from each round of the competition.

On Monday night (March 14), Premier Sports will follow the progress of Leigh Centurions, having covered their Fourth Round win against Widnes Vikings – this time with a tricky away trip to Bradford Bulls.

And as an added bonus on Saturday afternoon (March 12), the RFL’s Our League web and app will cover the tie between North Wales Crusaders – the only League One team remaining in the competition – and Sheffield Eagles, the 1998 Wembley winners.

There is a double incentive for all the teams who have reached this stage of the competition, as in addition to earning a place in the Sixth Round when the Betfred Super League heavyweights join the road to Spurs, they will also qualify for the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup – the knockout competition introduced in 2019 to provide a second opportunity for non-Super League clubs to reach Challenge Cup Final day, with the Final also being played at Tottenham on Saturday May 28.
