Forward predicted to be ‘one of the best players in Super League’

Wigan’s Morgan Smithies has earned a reputation for himself in recent seasons with his enduring work ethic and toughness.

But, he has been given even greater praise by his head coach Adrian Lam, who has tipped the 20-year-old to be one of the best in Super League as the weeks pass by.

Smithies has already hit half a century of games for the Warriors having made his debut back in 2018 as a teenager, but has been injured for a number of weeks.

The record tackler in a Super League game with 72, the young, uncompromising forward is set for a return to the first-team squad and boss Lam cannot wait to see him back in action.

“Morgan has had a lot of weeks off with a high ankle strain which is as good as a rest, and over the last two months of the competition I would expect him to be one of the best players in Super League.

“We all know him as a hard-working, defending forward, and I felt before his injury he was starting to find another level with the speed of his carries.”
