Former Wigan youngster commits to Swinton

Swinton Lions have confirmed former Wigan Warriors academy player Sam Grant has signed a new deal for the 2021 season.

Grant was part of the Warriors side that won the 2019 Academy Grand Final against St Helens.

He made his debut in the Challenge Cup against Leigh Miners Rangers, and grabbed a try. He also played two more matches against Featherstone Rovers and Widnes Vikings before the season was cancelled.

Grant told the club website: “I am very pleased to have signed for another year with Swinton and I’m looking forward to getting back in training with the lads and coaching staff to get ready for next year.

“I’m gutted about how my first season at the club ended due to the current situation. I thought we had just started to show what we can do as a team and that we would cause any team problems.

“I now can’t wait to get back out there next year with the lads and I’m hoping to have a big season with the Lions.”

Head Coach Stuart Littler added: “Sam is another young player with a lot of potential for future development. He has a very high skill set with a good understanding of how rugby should be played.

He is very selfless and always thinks of the team before himself. That is a great quality to have and over the next few years I’m looking forward to seeing Sam continue to forge a good career for himself within our great game.

“A very positive member of our group, he has come to our club with very high personal standards that he developed throughout his time within the Wigan youth set up.”
