Former Wigan Warriors star set to make decision on playing future

Former Wigan Warriors star Ryan Sutton is ready to extend his stay in Australia.

Sutton has been at the Canberra Raiders since 2019, registering almost 50 appearances in the process, but found the 2021 NRL season tough going due to injury.

However, the ex-Wiganer remains firmly in head coach Ricky Stuart’s plans, according to The Canberra Times.

Alongside Sutton, fellow forward stars Corey Haraqira-Naera and Corey Horsburgh are also thought highly of by Stuart.

“They’re well and truly in the plans of the future of this club,” Stuart said.

Sutton came through the academy at the DW Stadium, playing 118 games for the first-team before departing for Australia in a surprise move at the end of 2018.

Despite the surprise, the 26-year-old has taken to life in the NRL like a duck to water and has become one of Canberra’s most consistent performers.

A two-time Grand Final winner with Wigan, Sutton was not chosen to play in the Raiders’ 2019 own Grand Final loss to Melbourne Storm.
