Former Wigan Warriors star Oliver Gildart makes early impression in NRL debut

In 2018, Oliver Gildart announced himself to the wider rugby league world with an outstanding try against New Zealand for England.

Three years on from that and the Wigan centre earnt himself a move to the NRL following Wigan teammate and former Man of Steel Jackson Hastings to Wests Tigers as they looked to finally break back into the play-offs after years in the bottom eight.

Gildart will be the first to admit that 2021 was perhaps not his best season but that was true of Wigan on a wider scale as they struggled to find rhythm in attack making it difficult for the 2018 Super League Champion to affect games in the way he’d like.

That had many people questioning his move to Australia but just minutes into his NRL debut he made a huge impression.

Eight minutes into the game against last year’s Minor Premiers the Melbourne Storm, Gildart picked up a try assist to help Ken Maumalo open the scoring for the Tigers.

It now remains 4-0 as the contest continues to impress with both sides making a good account of themselves early on.

However, it seems Gildart and Hastings may be heading for a debut win as Tigers.
