Former Wigan Warriors forward Ben Flower makes shock rugby union move

Ex-Wigan Warriors forward Ben Flower may have retired from rugby league, but he is now set to take the field with the 15-man code.

Born in Caerphilly, Wales, Flower has signed for Championship side Pontypool after a long career in the 13-a-side code, playing for sides such as Celtic Crusaders, South Wales Scorpions, Wigan Warriors and Leigh Centurions.

Flower retired last week, but he is excited to do his bit for Pontypool.

“I cannot wait to get to Pontypool Park and get stuck into training and playing my part in helping Pooler achieve its ambitions,” said Flower to the South Wales Argus.

“I want to help the team in any way I can and, ultimately, I want to enjoy the remainder of my playing career because when you’re having fun, you play your best rugby.

“I’ve been really impressed with the professionalism of the club and I’m looking forward to being around a good group of lads.

Nice one Ben, it was great having you at Wigan RL for so long, and great to see you carrying on in the Union game, I know you’ll smash it.
