One of two things can happen when a player moves to the NRL from Super League.

It can either go well or go awry. For the likes of Sam Burgess, James Graham and Elliott Whitehead it has gone incredibly smoothly, whilst for others such as Sam Tomkins, Joe Burgess and Ryan Hall, their stays Down Under have been less successful.

One of those signings that has had mixed reviews since making the move ahead of the 2022 season is former Wigan Warriors centre Oliver Gildart.

After signing for the Wests Tigers, big things were expected of the England centre, but he failed to nail down a starting berth after initially finding it tough to settle.

However, midway through the season, Sydney Roosters picked up the ex-Wigan man on loan until the end of the season with Wests, at the time, detailing that he would be back at Concord for 2023.

Wests Tigers chief executive, Justin Pascoe, said on the move to Sydney: “This works for Oliver, and it works for us as well. So strategically, it makes sense,” Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said.

“Oliver will return to us after this short loan and begin preparing for 2023.”

However, according to the Courier Mail, it is understood that the ex-Wigan man will be staying at the Sydney Roosters for 2023 in a move that yet again underlines the deep-rooted problems at Wests.

Sydney, obviously, have been well impressed with Gildart since his arrival.
