A former Warrington Wolves star has avoided jail Down Under after three separate court order breaches in the space of one month.
Chris Sandow, who played for Warrington Wolves in 2015 and 2016, “narrowly avoided jail” per reports from The Courier Mail with the 36-year-old breaching a court order three times in a month.
Sandow faced Ipswich Magistrates Court earlier this week faced with three counts of driving without a licence after it was previously disqualified by a court order.
Despite that, the former Warrington Wolves man was seen to refuel his car at three different locations around the Brisbane and Ipswich area between November 3rd and December 1st last year.
Upon examination of CCTV by the police, Sandow was identified as the driver and the 36-year-old pled guilty to all offences earlier this week, whilst declining the opportunity to speak on the incidents in court.
He had previously had his driving licence disqualified for two years regarding similar offences back in 2023.
Acting magistrate Robert Turra said: “If these matters were before the court in December last year when you received that period of 200 hours community services, the court would have imposed a greater punishment.
“I don’t see a short period of imprisonment serving any benefit that allows you to continue with the work that you’ve been doing under the supervision of probation.”
Magistrate Turra did impose a four-month jail sentence, however, he granted Sandow immediate parole meaning that he will continue to serve community services under suspension instead.
Sandow debuted in 2008 for South Sydney Rabbitohs before joining Parramatta Eels, making a total of 159 appearances in the NRL before joining Warrington Wolves late in the 2015 season.
Whilst with the Wolves, he played 31 games and scored 12 tries but headed back Down Under in 2017 to play in the Queensland Cup instead of staying at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
