Former Warrington Wolves star available for Super League clubs

Murdoch-Masila NRL Super League

Former Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils forward Ben Murdoch-Masila is available for Super League clubs to sign.

The powerful forward first arrived in Super League in 2016 with the Salford Red Devils after 58 appearances in the NRL with Wests Tigers (where he made 52 appearances scoring seven trues) and Penrith Panthers.

He was particularly impressive in 2017 when Salford finished the regular season in the top four only to slip down the table in the Super 8s. He would then become one of many Salford stars snapped up by a Super League rival as is frequently the way.

He went to Warrington where he spent three years playing 67 games and scoring 20 tries. An impressive record for a forward but not as impressive as his record of 22 tries in 60 games at Salford.

Whilst at Warrington, he helped the club to the Challenge Cup Finals in 2018 and 2019 and the Grand Final in 2018. He was part of the team on each occasion including the side that shocked St Helens in 2019 to lift the Challenge Cup.

At the end of 2020, he joined New Zealand Warriors where he would make 27 appearances and score six tries in two seasons.

At the end of the 2022 season, he was linked with a return to Super League such as with the Catalans Dragons but found himself signing a two year deal with different Dragons, the St George Illawarra Dragons.

However, now in the final year of his contract, he is available for Super League clubs to sign and has been since November 1st.

It will be interesting to see if St George push to retain him after seeing off competition to sign him.

They were delighted when they got his signature, “Ben is a quality player with great experience and he certainly provides what we have been looking to build within our forward pack,” said Dragons General Manager of Football Ben Haran.

“We are excited to see him join the playing group next week and look forward to the impact he will have at the club.”

It would also be interesting to see if a reunion with Salford or Warrington would be likely.
