Former Warrington Wolves player takes up important role alongside the club

Former Warrington Wolves player Matty Blythe has taken a new career turn – and it’s landed him right back where it all started.

After playing 69 games for the Warrington Wolves between 2007 and 2012 and then a further 64 for the Bradford Bulls, Blythe returned to the Halliwell Jones in 2017 to play three more games before retiring.

His career route after that took an unusual turn, with the ex-centre becoming heavily involved in security services – an occupation which led Blythe to Iraq to look after bomb disposal experts.

After two years in the Middle East, Blythe returned to the UK to go into homeland security services and he has since launched his own security course at the Vanquish Group as well as being his own executive close protection operative.

That has turned full circle, with Blythe’s company Optimum Security managing the hospitality at the Halliwell Jones Stadium for the season ahead.

As well as Blythe mentoring a number of people, the 33-year-old has also helped develop a few rugby league players into security guards with the likes of former Warrington assistant Andrew Henderson as well as current Barrow Raiders star Jarrod Sammut taking up his course.
