Former Warrington Wolves man sentenced to community service

Ex-Warrington Wolves man Chris Sandow

Former Warrington Wolves man Chris Sandow has been sentenced to unpaid community service. Sandow attended Ipswich Magistrates Court last week after being charged with obstructing a police officer and driving without a licence disqualified by a court order.

He pleaded guilty to both offences and will now spend 200 hours working unpaid within the community over the next year. Sandow has also been disqualified from driving or holding a licence for two years.

Sandow was subject to a suspended sentence at the time of both incidents and that has also been extended by another three months with the magistrate warning the former half-back that he could face jail time should he be spotted driving in that time.

Speaking to the Courier Mail, Sandow expressed regret for actions before adding the court result was a positive one.

“It was a good outcome today,” he said, with the publication also stating that the 35-year-old said that he had no ambition or plans to play in the NRL once more, with his focus being on coaching.

Sandow hasn’t played at NRL level since leaving Parramatta Eels to join Warrington Wolves in 2015. He joined the Wolves in time to represent the club in the Super League Super 8s that season, but truly found his feet at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2016, making 24 appearances and scoring 12 tries.

Warrington made the Challenge Cup final and the Super League Grand Final that year but lost both games, with Sandow being benched for the latter. He has since played in the Queensland Cup for Norths Devils and in the local Mackay league for Moranbah Miners.

Sandow made 159 appearances in the NRL during his time playing first grade Down Under, with his career starting with South Sydney Rabbitohs. He spent three and a half seasons with Parramatta, too.
