Wakefield Trinity have today confirmed that a former player has sadly died at the age of just 40 years old.

Ricky Bibey played for the then Wildcats from 2007-09 making 60 appearances helping Trinity to their joint best Super League finish in 2009 as John Kear led them to fifth in the table.

A former prop forward it is deeply saddening to see him pass away at such a young age.

Wakefield this morning released a statement on the sad situation.

They said: “Trinity are saddened to hear of the passing of former prop-forward Ricky Bibey, aged 40.

“Ricky played for Trinity between 2007 and 2009, making 60 appearances.

“We send our condolences to Ricky’s family and friends at this tough time.”

We at Serious About Rugby League echo these condolences and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

I’m sure the rest of rugby league feels the same as well especially Wakefield’s current squad ahead of their huge game against Hull KR. They were already desperate to win to lift themselves off the bottom of the league but now have extra motivation to honour Ricky’s memory.

Ricky will also be remembered by Wigan, Leigh, Oldham and St Helens all of whom he gave substantial amounts of his career to.

Even rivals like Leeds Rhinos have already sent their condolences to his family.
