Former Super League ref Roby tested for coronavirus with all NRL officials now at risk

NRL official Tim Roby is being tested for coronavirus after he reported unwell ahead of the Manly-Melbourne clash on Sunday.

The former Super League referee was scheduled to be one of the touch judges but was pulled from the game suffering from a sore throat and fever.

“He was sent for testing today as a precautionary measure,” a spokesman for the NRL told Wide World of Sports.

It was decided on Friday that the NRL would be played behind closed doors from Round 2 in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus.

There will now be an anxious wait for Roby’s results, with the Englishman part of the wider refereeing group that regularly train together.

Should he return a positive test for COVID-19, then the NRL would have no choice but to stand down all referees until tested for the virus.
