Toulouse Olympique may have missed out on promotion in 2023 but they remain a likely future Super League team under IMG after finishing 11th in their rankings for last year and are showing real ambition to cement their standing in the top tier in 2024.
The French club have a new owner in the shape of Autobuy’s Olivier Dubois who has ensured that they have made a number of big signings and re-signings in recent weeks.
Their latest is the retention of cult hero and former Super League hooker Anthony Marion who has agreed to a two year deal keeping him at the club in 2024 and 2025.
Arriving from Albi at Toulouse Olympique in 2014 with the intention of climbing the ladder from the reserves to the first team, Anthony impressed and managed to join Sylvain Houles’ squad that same year. Since then, he has remained an unshakeable part of the Toulouse squad. This season he is one of two players, along with Paul Marcon, who have played all the games in 2023 (29 in total).
At 29 years old and with 193 professional matches played in the Olympian jersey, the native of Albi is capable of playing in a variety of positions such as hooker and loose-forward and did not hide his joy at staying with the club for 2024 and 2025 as their Super League dream remains a real possibility.
“I am very happy to have extended for the next two seasons with the club,” he said, “I’ve had a long talk with the new President Olivier Dubois, and his project for the club is really exciting. It’s a new chapter in the history of the club and I’m very excited to be a part of it.”
Head Coach Sylvain Houles added: “Probably the 2023 player of the year, Antho has really led the group both on and off the pitch. He’s a complete player with a good game intelligence, a good vision, a hard worker and one of the leaders of this team now and it’s quite normal that we continue the adventure with him.”
Toulouse are set for a big year in 2024 and will likely compete with Wakefield Trinity at the top of the table.
