Brian Smith has been appointed as a coaching supervisor for New Zealand in their bid for World Cup glory.
The ex Wakefield and Bradford boss will help out David Kidwell as the Kiwis look to get one over the Aussies and the English.
His last post in the NRL was in 2012 before he made the move to England, where he had already coached Hull FC in the pre-SL era.
With a vast array of experience, Smith seems like a decent addition to the coaching setup which also features the highly rated Garth Brennan as Kidwell’s assistant coach.
Brennan is the coach of Penrith Panthers’ NSW Cup side and has been linked to Super League clubs in the past.
