Former Super League chairman lands new role as return to football revealed

Robert Elstone, the former executive chairman of Super League, has landed a new role that has seen him return to football.

Elstone was the COO and CEO of Everton FC from 2005 to 2018, before he left that job to move into rugby league.

Joining the game as Super League’s executive chairman, he lasted three years before departing to join PwC as an advisor.

Elstone, who also has experience at Stockport County, has taken up an advisory role at Truro City and will provide strategic advice and support to the club’s senior leadership team going forward.

He will aim to strengthen the club’s local profile, whilst also looking to increase the national reputation of the club, which will play in the National League South after being relegated this season.

As part of Elstone’s time as RFL CEO, he was tasked with increasing the TV deal ahead of its expiration in 2021. That didn’t come to fruition, with the TV deal bringing in significantly less money than the previous contract. He also had to guide the sport through the Covid-19 pandemic.

After joining Truro, Elstone said:  “Having met the club’s senior management, I could not help but be impressed with the clarity of vision and determination for both the club and football charity to succeed.

“I have been fortunate to have worked at the highest level in English football but find the uniqueness of this Cornish club compelling, and I see huge potential for success. Working at all levels of the club, I hope to help them in achieving their ambitions.”
