Former Super League boss Tim Sheens takes new position

Tim Sheens has returned to coaching in a surprising role at the Wests Tigers.

Worth $1 million, Sheens will oversee the running of the club as Director of Rugby in an attempt to awake a sleeping giant.

Sheens led the Tigers to glory in their only NRL title back in 2005, steering the likes of Benji Marshall and Scott Prince to unprecedented success, but the 70-year-old will have his work cut out to inject some kind of revival to a club that almost sacked head coach Michael Maguire barely a month ago following a dismal year.

The former Hull KR, Widnes Vikings and Salford Red Devils boss is currently in the UK, but will return to his native Australia in less than a week to take up his new role – worth over $300,000 a season – until the end of 2024.

Sheens most famously coached Wests from 2003 until 2012 and has been the subject of intense speculation linking him with a return, although that was delayed due to conversations about his day-to-day operations.
