Former St Helens star Sia Soliola appointed to coaching role

Sia Soliola is perhaps one of the most revered sportsmen in rugby league.

Known for his impeccable attitude on and off the field, the former centre/second-rower has made a lot of friends on both sides of the hemisphere.

After five seasons as a Saint in Lancashire, Soliola returned to Australia with the Canberra Raiders.

Though gametime was at a premium, the 35-year-old struck up relationships so wholesome that he has been offered a job as the Raiders’ welfare and wellbeing manager.

He will work with the young recruits that are at the Canberra club, find them places to live and jobs to supplement their contracts, but he will do so in a way that only Soliola knows how.

And, although he doesn’t officially start until November 1, the Kiwi came in early.

“He has improved our club,” Canberra head coach told the Daily Telegraph. “I can’t say enough about him.”

“The boys call him ‘Uncle’, which speaks for itself.”
