Former St Helens player claims Warrington Wolves are “a mile behind”

A former St Helens player has labelled Warrington Wolves ‘a mile behind’ Saints and Wigan Warriors.
Warrington lost 24-32 at home to Catalans Dragons at the weekend in Rivals Round, but had previously been on a run of five straight wins.
The Wire were already behind in the fourth minute, thanks to a Tom Davies try for the Dragons.
Despite twice looking like they could come back in to it, they remained behind for the rest of the match.
Ex-Saints centre Jamie Foster took to X, formerly Twitter, after the game, saying: “I’d like to think I know my fair share about rugby league…
“And watching Warrington today they seem a mile behind Saints and Wigan.
“How many players would you Wigan and Saints fans take from Wire for your 13?”

Foster played 54 times in Super League for Saints, scoring 34 tries in the process, and being formidable with his boot, helped them to the 2011 Grand Final.
He later had spells at Hull FC, Bradford Bulls, Huddersfield Giants, Featherstone Rovers and Workington Town.
Warrington currently sit third in the league, two points behind Catalans and Saints, but other than the bottom three sides in the league – Hull FC, Castleford Tigers and London Broncos – have only beaten Hull KR, in a tight 22-20 win.

It’s hard to determine at this point in the season. They have looked exciting, and their run of wins would have given fans plenty of hope for the season ahead, but when faced with one of the top sides in the league in the Catalans Dragons, they’ve lost both times.
From early signs in 2024, they do certainly look behind – despite the brilliance of players like George Williams and Matt Dufty, they don’t seem to have the same steel and know-how that Saints and Wigan have, and have had for many seasons.
They play St Helens in the Challenge Cup on the 14th of April, and face Leeds Rhinos this week.
After those games, we may have more of an idea as to where they really are.
