Former St Helens coach Justin Holbrook set to become available again sparking coaching merry-go-round involving former Wigan Warriors star and ex-Leeds Rhinos coaching target

Reports in Australia claim that former St Helens coach could be available again with his time at Gold Coast Titans coming set to be coming to an end.

This comes from Fox Sports down under and follows a disappointing loss to Newcastle Knights which he himself described as “awful.” It left the once promising Titans still stuck at the bottom of the ladder and people seriously questioning what once appeared to be an exciting project under a coach with real pedigree.

The majority of that comes from his time at St Helens. The dominance we now see from the Saints in Super League was begun by Holbrook when he came into a struggling Saints side in 2017 and in less than 12 months turned them into a winning machine culminating in the 2019 Super League title.

This will make him a highly sought after coaching target both in the NRL but especially in Super League with clubs likely lining up to see if Holbrook can perform a similar miracle as the one he did at Saints.

His termination is all but guaranteed with reports suggesting that a clause in his deal would limit how much the Titans would have to pay out if he were let go. This comes from Paul Rothfield of the Daily Telegraph who claims that he could be sacked before the Titans’ next game.

He also becomes the latest coaching casualty with a Super League background in a matter of weeks. Fellow ex-Saints boss and 2014 Super League Grand Final winner Nathan Brown, 2010 Super League Grand Final winner Michael Maguire and former Wigan star Trent Barrett have all be relieved of their duties recently. Meanwhile, former Leeds Rhinos coaching target Shane Flanagan.

How many of them could end up in Super League remains to be seen.
