Former St Helens boss Mick Potter has returned to the international scene, and will once again be a head coach at a Rugby League World Cup.
Potter, who was at the helm of the Red Vee for seasons 2009 and 2010, before joining Bradford Bulls for two seasons after his exit from Knowsley Road.
The 62-year-old returned to the hot seat in 2021, to coach the Mount Pritchard NSW Cup side, before moving to Canterbury Bulldogs’ reserve grade outfit at the start of 2024 until the end of last season.
His latest coaching venture sees him take over the Fiji national side, a position he has held previously.
Potter coached the Bati at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, and guided them to a semi-final spot where they would lose to eventual winners Australia.
During that tournament, they secured wins over Wales, Italy and New Zealand, with the latter being by far their most impressive result of the tournament.
Per Fijian media, Potter is said to have signed a four-year contract with the Fijian National Rugby League, and will become the new boss after his work permit is accepted.
The ex-Saints and Bulls boss is expected to have plenty of Super League players in his ranks at the World Cup, with Leeds’ try-scoring freak Maika Sivo and Huddersfield’s Taane Milne among a number of potential inclusions.
