Former Salford prop takes surprise new coaching role

Olsi Krasniqi has been appointed head coach of Hemel Stags.

Born in the Albanian capital of Tirana, Krasniqi passed through the London Broncos academy set-up to make almost 100 appearances in the capital.

A move to Salford Red Devils and then Toronto Wolfpack brought Krasniqi back to the Broncos ahead of the 2019 season.

But, now the 29-year-old has swapped his playing boots for his coaching shoes to take over at Hemel.

The club’s Twitter account stated: “We wish to announce the appointment of Olsi Krasniqi as non-playing head coach for our 2022 Southern Conference League season.

“The 29-year-old is a product of the London Junior Rugby League and went on to have a successful playing career at Super League & Championship level with Harlequins RL/London Broncos, Salford Red Devils and Toronto Wolfpack. He made his Super League debut for Harlequins in 2010 as a 17-year-old.

“He is currently head coach of St Mary’s College Twickenham in the Student Rugby League Premier Division and has coached on the London Broncos Academy programme.

“The club sees the appointment of Olsi as the first step in becoming a force in the Southern Conference League; the main development league in the south of England and Wales.”
