Former rugby league star set to be sued by sexual assault victim

Rugby League mistake

Ex-NRL hero Jarryd Hayne is set to be sued by the victim of the sexual assault that he was convicted of earlier in the year.

Hayne was given a maximum sentence of five years and nine months in May after being found guilty of sexual intercourse without consent on two occasions.

The 33-year-old has always pleaded not guilty to the charges with appeals coming thick and fast against the decision.

The initial trial ended in a hung jury after the jurors couldn’t decide whether Hayne had forced the young woman in oral and digital sex following the NRL Grand Final in 2018.

The woman said Hayne forced himself on her despite pleas of “no” and “stop” and that she is still recovering.

“I have spent countless hours crying, the feeling of feeling dirty doesn’t go away,” she said. “Sometimes I am so depressed that I can’t get out of bed.”

The Supreme Court will take a look at the woman’s lawsuit for the first time later this month.
