Former NRL star explains ex-Wigan Warriors Jackson Hastings expected move away from Wests Tigers

Jackson Hastings is expected to complete his move to Newcastle Knights by the end of the week according to David Weidler of Channel Nine.

The Daily Telegraph have reported that Hastings has even been told to not attend training as he prepares to put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

The former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils man is set to be part of a swap deal which will see David Klemmer join Wests Tigers.

It’s an interesting move especially for Hastings who signed a two year deal with the Tigers going into 2022. However, new coach Tim Sheens doesn’t see Hastings as his seven having played him at 13 at the end of last season.

This was despite the fact three of the Tigers’ four wins in 2022 came with him at seven.

However, former NRL star Mark Geyer on Triple M radio has said it’s good business for both clubs.

The former Penrith Panthers star who made nearly 200 NRL appearances explained the situation at both clubs as well: “This is good for both clubs because at the moment I don’t think Jackson Hastings is in Tim Sheens or Benji Marshall’s figures.

“So they think let’s move him on. What do we need more? We need a hulking big front rower who can intimidate people.

“I think clubs would be in a plus for this, I think both need each other.

“He’ll be a great buy for Newcastle Knights.”
