Former Man of Steel Danny Brough has seen his son sign for Leigh Leopards in a move that the ex-Scotland international massively approves of.
Brough’s legendary Super League status is locked in with the playmaker making almost 350 appearances in the competition, whilst also being crowned the best player in the comp back in 2013.
He’d spent much of his career with Huddersfield Giants but also spent significant time at Wakefield Trinity, where his son featured in the Academy and Reserves.
That was until recently when Leigh Leopard swooped in to sign 18-year-old centre Will Brough in a move that his father Danny was fully on board with.
Will signed a 12-month contract with the Leopards and Leigh has since been labelled as ‘the place to be’ by his iconic father, who spoke recently to the Leigh Journal.
Leigh Leopards the ‘place to be’ per Man of Steel winner
Will explained that he was ‘over the moon’ to make the move to Leigh Leopards as he spoke about the chance to be coached by Adrian Lam, something that was also noted by his father.
“I think Leigh is the place to be,” Danny Brough told The Leigh Journal.
Explaining how the move came about, he revealed: “Chris Chester got in contact and said he wanted to take William to Leigh which was very pleasing for the lad.
“I think it is a good move for him to be coached by Adrian Lam and to be around the players they have there and with the success the club has enjoyed.”
With first-team centres such as Zak Hardaker, Ed Chamberlain and Ricky Leutele all leaving Leigh Leopards at the end of the 2024 season, it means there’s a lack of depth in the position.
However, Danny Brough has outlined that the plan could be more reserved than immediately pushing for a first-team berth.
He explained: “The plan down the line, I think, will be to send him on loan to a Championship or League One club so he is playing against men each week to try and progress his development.”
Being the son of someone so iconic to Super League can be a heavy weight to bear but the elder Brough admitted that there’s no pressure from him, aside from the demand to give it 100%.
Speaking on advice given to his sons, he said: “If they ask me, I tell them they have got to be on time for training and give 100 percent. Generally, the players who train how they play are the better players in my opinion.
“So, there is no pressure from me. I just hope William can enjoy himself.”
