It is not Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves or even St Helens headed to Wembley but Leigh Leopards and Hull KR.
Their story has been an amazing rags to riches affair gaining promotion last year and then climbing the table to second in the league and a Challenge Cup Final.
A lot of top notch recruitment has been key to this even one man who didn’t stay for this season.
That was of course former NRL and State of Origin star Blake Ferguson who left at the start of this year to return home.
He is now playing in New South Wales however, the latest game he played in descended into a mass brawl not just involving players either as it was sparked by a racist remark from one of the fans in attendance.
Ferguson’s Wellington Cowboys were playing Forbes Magpies in a Peter McDonald Premiership match.
The match was cut short by the official as police were called to deal with the situation.
The Daily Telegraph has captured footage from the incident you can see here.
“I think it was a racist comment from the home team, their fan base,” Ferguson said of the incident to the Daily Telegraph.
“It’s not good for kids to be seeing that type of stuff.
“I know they called an ambulance and that people were speaking with police. I know that there was an altercation. We just kept the players on the field and the ref called it off.
“We just went into the sheds and went home, to be honest. I didn’t see much because I was on the field. I haven’t heard anything or spoken to anyone today about it.
“I wasn’t involved in it. I just want to stay away from it to be honest.
“I guess over a period of time they will end up figuring out what happened and deal with it.”
Recently Ferguson was involved in an exchange with Leigh owner Derek Beaumont where the two showed just how much respect there still is between the two.
Ferguson is no doubt delighted that Leigh are headed to Wembley.
