Former Hull utility finds new club

Barrow Raiders have announced the signing of former Toronto Wolfpack and Hull FC utility back Hakim Miloudi.

Miloudi, 27, is a France international who hopes to make their squad for the 2021 World Cup.

Born in Perpignan, he has most recently been playing for Palau Broncos in the French Elite Championship, having spent the previous two seasons with the Wolfpack before their unfortunate demise.

Capable of playing at full-back, winger, centre or stand-off, Miloudi has previously played in League One for Doncaster, where he equalled their club record for most points scored in a match.

Raiders chairman, Steve Neale, said: “This is a massive of intent from the Raiders who have picked up a player who could undoubtedly be playing in Super League.

“He has set himself the mission of making the France World Cup squad and his mission will be our benefit.

“Unknowingly, the Barrow crowd have played a big part in the signing, with Hakim remarking how well they got behind the team when he visited in a Toronto shirt.”

Meanwhile, former Whitehaven hooker Sam Dowsett has also signed for the Raiders.

Dowsett, 28, was part of the Haven side that won the League One title in 2019.

Neale added: “Sam was recently released to return to the amateur ranks before we became aware of his availability. We managed to convince Sam that with the reduced travelling for training he could continue a professional career and we are delighted that he agreed.

“Sam will strengthen competition for places as the club look to make a strong promotion challenge.”

The Raiders got their league season underway with a 38-20 win at Coventry at the weekend, and welcome Keighley Cougars for their first home game this Sunday.
