Former Hull KR star has not been training with Championship club despite rumours

In the last week we have seen one of the highest profile free agents, that being ex-Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC star Luke Gale who won the Man of Steel with Castleford Tigers in 2017, confirm his future as he joined Keighley Cougars.

Another big name free agent is of course former Hull KR star and Cook Islands international Brad Takairangi whose future is not yet clear.

It has recently been speculated that Takairangi had been training with Featherstone Rovers as many expected him to join Sean Long’s side.

However, Serious About Rugby League can confirm that this has not been the case with Takairangi spending time in Australia recently.

That said, there is no guarantee that Featherstone aren’t interested in the versatile former NRL star.

He is still looking for a new club having left Hull KR with the following statement:

“Now that my rehab is complete it officially brings me to the end of my 2 seasons with Hull KR.

“I just want to say Thank you to Tony, Neil, Paul and the club for giving me the opportunity to play for KR and for all the support you guys have given me.

“Thank you to the brothers I played with the last 2 years and I wish you guys all the best for next year. Thank you to Sue and Bonesy for all the work you guys do behind the scenes. Thank you to the loyal KR fans who turn up week in week out, there are some awesome memories.

“Thank you also to our sponsors (a massive Thank you to Big Ben, Alex, Liam and Liz for allowing me to work with you guys and complete my 300 hours of community service. It’s been so good to see so many different smiles on so many different faces).”

As he admitted that it wasn’t the ending he dreamt of at Hull KR, he revealed that his future is up in the air: “It wasn’t the ending I was after but I do believe we made some great strides and memories especially in 2021. Thank you all Let’s see what the future holds.”
