Wests Tigers have today confirmed the signing of Wigan Warriors star John Bateman on a four-year deal with the club.

It’s one of the biggest transfer stories of the year and naturally has everyone talking.

One of the people whose opinion on this which will be valued the most is current Wests Tigers boss and former Hull KR coach Tim Sheens who made a bold claim about Bateman on the club’s website today.

“He’s a world class player with an enormous work ethic,” said Sheens.

“He’s the type of player who leads by example.

“I have no doubt John will make a big contribution to this club over the next few years.”

Meanwhile, Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe had his say on the matter as you’d expect.

“We are delighted to welcome John and his family to the club,” Pascoe said.

“This is another important piece in what we are building as a club, and I know John will play a very important role in the time that he is with us.”

The club paid what the Warriors have described as “a significant fee” for Bateman which is believed to be $250,000 which equates to around £140,000.

Bateman follows in the footsteps of former Leeds Rhinos second-row Gareth Ellis in joining the Tigers.
