Former Hull KR and London Broncos forward Matty Gee has penned a deal to join Championship outfit Bradford Bulls from next season. Gee has been with Halifax Panthers for the last three seasons but he has now signed a two-year deal at Odsal.

The 29-year-old will join up with Eamon O’Carroll’s side for pre-season, once the 2024 campaign has reached a conclusion. It comes after spells with the Salford Red Devils, the Broncos, Hull KR and Leigh Centurions, with Gee representing the club before their rebrand to Leopards.

Bradford are currently fifth in the Championship, some way behind leaders Wakefield Trinity and Toulouse Olympique, who both have high hopes of playing Super League next season. According to last year’s 2023 IMG grading, though, the Bulls aren’t far behind the above pair with the club being ranked 14th overall with a grade of 12.02.

“I’m buzzing, joining a club with the history it has got and the team it has got, once I got talking to Freddy [Eamon O’Carroll] it was an easy decision and the deal got done pretty quick,” Gee told the club website.

“It seems like a really tight knit group, I like the values and the way Eamon likes to play. The players clearly like playing for him so that’s something I wanted to be involved in. I will bring hard work and hopefully I can help the team the best I can and do anything I can for the boys.

“It’s always nice when another coach wants to sign you and that is another reason why it was such an easy decision. Hearing his thoughts and what he wants from his players, it fits right with me.

“I have been on the other side of the supporters a few times especially in the derby! It will be nice to be on their side for a change, they always come out in numbers and are really loud so I am looking forward to it.”

O’Carroll added: “I’m really happy to bring in someone of the quality of Matty, who I believe is one of the best back rowers in the competition. I’ve been a fan of his for a number of years. He’s got great experience in both Super League and Championship, and will bring a high level of professionalism and work ethic.

“Matty is fully aware of the expectation and what we are trying to do here and he is fully on board to help us achieve our goals moving forward. I look forward to welcoming him and his family to our club.”
