Former Hull FC full-back Jack Walker has revealed the brutal conversation that led to his release from the Super League club.

Walker, 25, was released from the Black and Whites in November – just one year into a two-year deal – with the full-back still searching for a team for 2025.

The ex-Leeds Rhinos man has documented a lot of his off-season on his social media and recently spoke with Serious About Rugby League on his ‘gutting’ Hull FC exit, as well as his intent on finding a Super League opportunity.

More recently, he told The Daily Mirror about how the club’s Director of Rugby Richie Myler left in a ‘bad’ spot by not informing him earlier of the club’s intent to release him.

Now, on his TikTok, he has spoken more on his exit from the MKM Stadium and revealed the brutal nature of the conversations he had with those at the club prior to his release.

Answering fan questions about his exit, Walker explained his intent on proving himself to newly-appointed head coach John Cartwright but revealed he was never afforded the opportunity.

“I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to prove myself to the new coach, as anyone would want to do.,” he explained.

“So I got told that I wasn’t wanted anywhere near the first team and that if I was to stay then I’d be last choice full-back, so fourth or fifth choice. I just think it wasn’t the right fit for me being fourth or fifth choice.

“I wasn’t allowed to train with the first team. I was told to train with the Reserves/Academy so I think it was the right decision to make to leave.”

Hull FC saw youngster Logan Moy emerge as one of their stars in 2024 whilst the Black and Whites also signed NRL back Jordan Rapana to play full-back, pushing Walker down the depth chart.

Surmising how the split came, the 25-year-old said: “I got a percentage of my wage that I would have got for the year and that’s it basically.

“I didn’t get the chance to prove myself to him (John Cartwright) and that’s how it is sometimes – a new coach comes in and they want it all their way, which is absolutely fine.”

Walker has recently conceded that his likeliest path back to Super League would be for teams to suffer injuries in the position, something the ex-Leeds man clarified he did not wish upon anyone given his own injury history – but something that he considered his most realistic means of return.
