Former Hull FC man makes Super League comeback after signing two-year deal

One former Hull FC man has landed a return to Super League, having developed his career down in the Championship.

Jeylan Hodgson has thrived at second-tier side Goole Vikings over the past two years, becoming one of their most important players.

Making 37 appearances and scoring 11 tries under Scott Taylor, his top-flight comeback is richly deserved, and at only 21, his future is still very much ahead of him.

Highlighting how much of a prospect he is, earlier this season Hull KR took the hooker on a trial, though didn’t pursue a deal. Having left Hull FC at the end of 2024, the youngster has now landed a deal at Huddersfield Giants, penning a two-year contract.

Hodgson’s exit was exclusively confirmed by Serious About Rugby League in late June, with the waiting until now to announce the signing. The deal comes after some key contract extensions for Adam Swift and Harry Rushton in recent days.

“He’s tough,” Giants’ Director of Rugby Andy Kelly said on the signing. “He’s in a great age range to be able to develop and join the squad.

“In the weeks we’ve watched him play, he’s been the standout player and a player that other Betfred Super League clubs have looked at.

“Jeylan will add to our hooking capability and will learn a lot from Zac Woolford. He’s another addition that we’re underpinning our squad with and it’s an exciting capture for the Giants!”

Hodgson himself added: “I’m really excited. I’ve been in a full-time environment before, and I let that go, so this time around I want to prove everybody wrong.

“I’ve spoken with Jim [Lenihan, head coach], and he came to watch me play for Goole on Saturday, and he’s pleased to have me on board.

“I can learn a lot from Zac Woolford. He’s, in my opinion, one of the best hookers in the league, so I’m excited to learn a lot from him. It’s a great opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to get started.”
