Former Hull FC and London Broncos hooker James Cunningham has left Toulouse Olympique after one season.

The former Huddersfield Giants hooker left the Giants for the French side after their promotion in 2021.

He spent one season with the French side but is now leaving the club due to family circumstances.

He said on Instagram:

“With a heavy heart I’d like to announce that I’ll be leaving Toulouse Olympique early due to family circumstances out of my control.

“Thank you to the club and fans for making the past year so special. We arrived a couple and we left a family, memories to last a lifetime.”

Cunningham started his career at Hull FC in 2012 with 10 appearance and one try prior to his departure to London in 2015 after a loan spell with the club where he scored twice in 17 games.

After 104 appearances with the Broncos and helping them to promotion in 2018, he left the relegated Broncos for the newly promoted Toronto Wolfpack in 2020 prior to joining the Giants in 2021 combining with Adam O’Brien until the arrival of Nathan Peats.

Ironically, both he and Peats would move to Toulouse as Danny Levi joined the Giants but Levi’s move away has allowed Peats to return to Huddersfield.

Thus, the French side have lost two hookers going into next year but it is a strong position where they have already recruited for going into 2023.

They also have Anthony Marion and Eloi Pelissier at the club at present.

Where Cunningham will end up remains unclear.
