Former England international confirms plans for rugby league movie

The Burgess boys have a strong connection with movie star Russell Crowe and now one of them has revealed that he is working on a rugby league movie.

The recently retired George Burgess said on James Graham’s podcast, Burgess revealed that they have a script and they are trying to get it off the ground:

“We’re actually working on a script at the minute, it’s just called League and it tells the story of rugby league and the origin story.

“It starts off at Huddersfield in the pub where rugby league was founded and the northern union separated from rugby union.

“It explains the whole story and then it fast forwards in time to a story where we come into a country rugby league town and an American has to come over and play in this town.

“It just shows that environment and explains the game of rugby league perfectly to the American public and that’s something we’ve been trying to get off the ground and get going.

“It’s a great script, it’s this guy over in America, and we’ve been speaking to some guys at the NRL to try get it off the ground.

“It’s an exciting project and would help growing the game in America.”
