Former controversial owner set to launch bid for new team

Ex-Bradford Bulls owner Andrew Chalmers has confirmed that he is bidding for a second New Zealand NRL team to be based in Wellington.

Chalmers was owner of the West Yorkshire club between 2017 and 2019, but didn’t strike up too much of a chord with fans and administrators. And, he’s now set to try for a third time to get an NRL license after having previous bids rejected in 1991 and 2004, the Bradford Telegraph & Argus has reported.

The NRL have previously outlined that they want a second New Zealand team – aside from the Warriors – from 2026, but had had no suitors until Chalmers stepped forward.
